CPD for Professionals
See below for our current range of workshops for healthcare professionals. All of our workshops are interactive, and we ensure they are small groups, so there are lots of opportunities for questions and to think together with peers. Any healthcare professionals working with mothers during the perinatal period are welcome to book on, from IBCLC lactation consultants, to doulas, midwives, health visitors, GPs... All are welcome.
Psychological Perspectives on Breastfeeding Grief and Trauma

Moral Injury, Vicarious Trauma and Meaningful Self-Care

- Understand the concepts of moral injury, vicarious trauma, and how these apply to working in infant feeding.
- Consider what this looks like for you - how can you "take your temperature"? How do you know whether you are OK or not?
- A detailed look at your own values - what is most important to you in your work? What are your guiding principles? How can you stay true to these in an imperfect world?
- Create a personalised action plan - More than just a hot bath! Using the "swiss cheese" model of self-care to put theory into action, and keep you well.

Supporting Breastfeeding Mothers With a History of Sexual Abuse

CPD for lactation consultants, midwives, health visitors, doulas and anyone who supports families in the perinatal period.
- Two hour live interactive workshop with a Consultant Clinical Psychologist specialising in breastfeeding. Access to pre-recorded video and content for three months
- Many mothers you work with will have a history of sexual abuse or trauma, whether they disclose this to you or not. This workshop will allow you to better understand how this may impact breastfeeding, and how you can ensure that you are providing trauma-informed care to everyone you see.
- Practical psychological strategies that anyone can use to better support women with breastfeeding in the context of a history of sexual abuse.
